Philosophy workshop

Philosophical workshops that initiate children to think for themselves

A PHILO WORKSHOP HELD BY A PHILOSOPHER, WHAT IS DIFFERENT

The name philosophical workshop in fact covers a wide variety of practices depending on whether one considers the method used or the philosophical competence of the person who implements it. Whether in the school or extracurricular context, there are many so-called philosophical workshops which are reduced to offering a space of expression in which, based on major questions, each child has his or her opinion without, in the end, not being releases a philosophical progression, that is to say, a progression in going beyond presuppositions, in the evaluation of the relevance of an argument, in the consideration of the reverse of a proposition, just as many points which require appropriate support. A workshop led by a philosopher experienced in maieutics (method used) is a considerable added value which makes each workshop the framework of a true philosophical activity accessible to children.

A method: maieutics

Maieutics, or Socratic questioning, consists of a reflexive game of questions intended to bring the interlocutor to become aware of what he knows implicitly, but which he believed to ignore. With this method, it is less a question of emphasizing what the child thinks than on what he says, and this, in order to initiate him to develop a rigorous and autonomous thought.
